Effie may be a demon now but she’s got a very human way about her. For all that she is at ease with being a demon and doesn’t regret why she chose to become one, there’s still kindness in her that you may not expect. Seeing Finn, her husband reincarnated, really throws her for a loop. Finn isn’t the man she married – he’s had his own life, his own decisions, and experiences that have shaped him – but at his core he’s still the same person. And that person is drawn to Effie and won’t let her go without a fight. The two of them had great chemistry and I liked seeing how drawn they were to one another, to see old love rekindle.
Alexandria Bellefleur blends heartbreak, tenderness, and hope together, adding in a dash of humor to keep things lively. I really enjoyed seeing the bits of the demon world that she showed, from why Effie became a demon to how things are run in Hell. While this book is a sequel to The Devil She Knows, it can be read as a standalone. I was intrigued by the world Bellefleur created and was charmed by Effie and Finn’s romance so I’ll definitely be going back to read that first book and I hope there will be more set in the same universe.
