Waiting on Wednesday: How to Woo a Reluctant Lady

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights eagerly anticipated upcoming releases!

I've been a fan of Sabrina Jeffries since high school and her writing just keeps getting better and better. The Hellions of Halstead Hall series began as a spinoff of the School for Heiresses series. The Hellions of Halstead Hall focuses on rather unique wild Sharpe siblings as each has to face their grandmother's ultimatum to marry within a year or be disinherited. Minerva has been my favorite of the siblings from the start and I first came to adore Giles in Wed Him Before You Bed Him, the final book in the School for Heiresses series. The sparks that have been flying between Minerva and Giles the past two books have me desperate to read How to Woo a Reluctant Lady.

Title: How to Woo a Reluctant Lady
Author: Sabrina Jeffries
Series: Hellions of Halstead Hall, Book 3
Genre: Historical Romance
Publisher: Pocket Star
Release Date: 18 January 2011

Book Description (from Sabrina Jeffries's website):

Lady Minerva Sharpe has the perfect plan to thwart her grandmother’s demand that she marry by year’s end: become engaged to a rogue! Surely Gran would rather release her inheritance than see her wed a scoundrel.

And who better to play the part of Minerva’s would-be husband than wild barrister Giles Masters, the very inspiration for the handsome spy in the popular gothic novels she writes? The memory of his passionate kiss on her nineteenth birthday has lingered with Minerva, though she has no intention of falling for such a rakehell, much less marrying him! Little does she know, Giles really is a covert government operative. When the two team up to investigate the mystery behind her parents’ deaths, their fake betrothal leads to red-hot desire. Then Minerva discovers Giles’s secret double life, and he must use all the cunning tricks of his trade to find his way back to her heart.

Happy Halloween and Check This Out

Halloween is almost over and, if you're like me, you hate to see it go.

I'm prolonging it a little bit (as in, until next October) by enjoying Halloween romances. The Taste of Magick, my Waiting on Wednesday choice, came out this Saturday. I love this story and highly recommend it if you like warlocks, Halloween, male/male romance, and/or smoking-hot short stories ;)

To celebrate The Taste of Magick's release, Touch the Night is doing a Halloween giveaway of the book. The contest lasts until November 3rd, so go here to enter.

Waiting on Wednesday: Indulgence in Death

This is my first time for a Waiting on Wednesday post (thanks to Angela – aka one of the people I babble most to about books I’m waiting on - at Touch the Night for showing me how to do this).

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights eagerly anticipated upcoming releases!

I’ve been a huge Nora Roberts fan for over half my life, so it’s no surprise I picked up her J.D. Robb mysteries. I fell in love with Eve, Roarke, and all their friends and have eagerly awaited each engaging new case Eve picks up. Want proof I’m a fangirl? My cat’s name is Roarke.

Title: Indulgence in Death
Author: J.D. Robb
Series: In Death
Genre: Mystery
Publisher: Putnam
Release Date: 02 November 2010

Book Description (from J.D. Robb's website):

First it was a limo driver shot through the neck with a crossbow. Then it was a high-priced escort found stabbed through the heart with a bayonet.

Random hits, thrill kills, murderers with a taste for the finer things in life-and death-are making NYPSD Lieutenant Eve Dallas angry. And an angry Eve can be just as an efficient and dangerous predator as the killer.

As time runs out on another innocent victim's life, Eve's investigation will take her into the rarefied circle that her husband, Roarke, travels in-and into the perverted heart of madness...

The Shelf of Awesome

Many people have what they refer to as a “keeper shelf.” If someone asked me to put all my “keepers” on one shelf, I’d first have to search Guinness World Records for the longest shelf. While reorganizing my bookcases today, I did, however, put together a “Shelf of Awesome.”

What the hell is that, you wonder? The Shelf of Awesome is a shelf of books that, in brief, inspire me. No, you won’t find any “inspirational” books on The Shelf of Awesome. By inspire I mean these books are the ones that always inspire me to write, to read, to imagine, to love, to smile, and to find happiness. I’ll even let you in on a little secret: not all the books on The Shelf of Awesome are favorites of mine and some of my favorites aren’t on the shelf.

Since The Shelf of Awesome is an actual shelf, no ebooks made the cut. Perhaps one day I’ll put together an electronic version of the shelf, but for now, you’ll find what’s on my Shelf of Awesome below.

And please, do let me know – do you have a similar shelf? What books have or would make the cut and why?

Favorite Book of All-Time
The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster

These Are Classics for a Reason
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell

The First
You can never forget your first romance novel. Or, in my case, novels:

The Calhoun Women (Courting Catherine, A Man for Amanda, For the Love of Lilah, and Suzanna’s Surrender) by Nora Roberts

The Comfort Reads
The books I always return to:

Claiming the Courtesan by Anna Campbell
Weddings Can Be Murder by Christie Craig
He Loves Lucy by Susan Donovan
The King’s Pleasure by Shannon Drake
The Bride by Julie Garwood
The Legend MacKinnon by Donna Kauffman
Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas
Born in Sin by Kinley MacGregor
Romancing Mr. Bridgerton by Julia Quinn
Lover Awakened by J.R. Ward

It’s Not Always the Book
These are the books that, while I love them, actually aren’t my favorite books of the authors in question. These are the books that make the shelf because they’ve come to symbolize an author and/or series that inspires (see above definition) me:

Sounds to Die By by Nikki Duncan
Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Somebody Killed His Editor by Josh Lanyon
Naked in Death by J.D. Robb

Books Mean Love
Or at least they do when your closest friends also happen to be avid readers. These books make the shelf not because of the stories or the authors that wrote them, but the people who gave them to me:

The Eleventh Sheep by Kyle Mewburn and Claire Richards
Mansfield Park and Mummies: Monster Mayhem, Matrimony, Ancient Curses, True Love, and Other Dire Delights by Jane Austen and Vera Nazarian
Where is the Green Sheep? By Mem Fox and Judy Horacek
