While undercover to help destroy a sex trafficking ring, Dom Sam Davies messed up. In trying to help one of the slaves, Linda, he ended up making things worse, though he doesn’t know how. Now that she’s free, Linda wants nothing to do with him. She’s turned her back on the world of BDSM, even though she’s a masochist and a submissive who’d be perfect for him. Sam’s willing to give Linda time to heal before he tries to make things right, but when someone begins harassing her, he determinedly steps back into her life.

All Linda wants is to return to her quiet, conservative life. She’s going to be normal if it kills her, and if the comments of her late husband and previous lovers are anything to go by, being a masochist is the farthest thing from normal. Only Linda can’t seem to find her balance. She still battles with the memories of her imprisonment and abuse, and there’s someone in her hometown who won’t let her forget her time as a slave. After hateful words are spray painted on her home, Linda’s shocked when her friend sends Sam Davies to help her. Sam brings all the desires she’s tried to suppress to the surface. Can she come to accept her whole self and make a go of a relationship with Sam? Or will the all-too-real ghosts of her past tear her apart before she has the chance?

Honest, emotional, sexy, thrilling...This Is Who I Am is all that and more. Cherise Sinclair is THE powerhouse BDSM romance author and her talent shines through in This Is Who I Am. I loved this book from beginning to end for more reasons than I can say, though for the sake of this review I’ll keep it brief.

Cherise Sinclair has written many memorable couples, but Linda and Sam definitely rank among my top favorites. They’re older and wiser than many romance heroes and heroines, and their maturity and experience gives This Is Who I Am a different tone. I flat-out loved both of them. Linda is a warm, caring, strong woman who’s been through hell and has come out the other side, ready to face her fears. It’s not easy for her, nor is it just her memories of her captivity that are holding her back. I loved watching Linda come into her own over the course of the story, and watching her learn to accept and enjoy who she is was simply beautiful. As for Sam, he’s a sadist with a heart of gold. Not knowing much about the sadism side of BDSM, I wasn’t sure what to expect from him. But Sam – though he has a firm hand with the flogger and is undeniably a sadist – has a gruff, old-fashioned gentleman way about him that I just swooned over. His straightforward, no frills caring nature makes him stand out in my mind. He’s not without his own demons, however; his horrifying ex-wife did a number on both Sam and his daughter and he’s reticent to drop all his barriers around Linda because of this. Together and separately Linda and Sam were a compelling, sizzling hot couple and their happily ever after was worth every bit of work they had to do to attain it.

Though Linda and Sam are the heart and soul of This Is Who I Am, Masters of the Shadowlands fans needn’t fear that their favorite Shadowlands Masters and subs are missing from the story. All six couples – plus some future protagonists – play strong supporting roles. Reading about the Shadowlands community makes me feel like I’m visiting with old friends. There’s laughter and jokes aplenty, but it’s the honesty and acceptance among the group that made me smile over and over again.

I cannot recommend This Is Who I Am highly enough. Ms. Sinclair has written a unique, engaging book that I devoured in less than a day. Don’t be afraid to take a trip to the dark side with this book – you won’t regret it.

In the life before he was an engineer, a Dom and a Shadowlands Master, Raoul had seen plenty of darkness. But he’s never seen evil as sickening as the evil he finds in a human trafficking ring that he volunteered to help the FBI bring down. Raoul is no slave owner, but he’s more than willing to pose as one if it will help the FBI agents on the case. He has been instructed to reject all of the slaves offered for sale at the small auction he’s been invited to so that he’ll be invited to a larger auction. Despite his best intentions, Raoul throws the feds’ plans out the window when he sees Kimberly – a friend of one of the Shadowlands’ subs - as one of the slaves for sale. Raoul can’t leave Kimberly behind, so he buys her.

Kim has been physically, sexually, mentally and emotionally tortured by her captors, but she hasn’t let it break her. When Master R purchases her, Kim can’t simply put the past behind her. More challenging than coming to grips with what was done to her and the scars it has left on her body and psyche is the knowledge that her freedom came at the cost of other kidnapped women’s lives. When she learns that there’s a chance the FBI can still raid the big slave auction if she poses as Master R’s slave, Kim can’t bring herself to refuse. She’ll have to live with Raoul and learn to treat him as her Master in order to be successful. Kim figures she can live with anything if it means freeing other slaves. What she doesn’t count on is Master R’s loving brand of dominance making her feel more alive than she ever has before.

Get ready for the most emotionally wrenching MASTERS OF THE SHADOWLANDS book to date. TO COMMAND AND COLLAR is a gripping, sometimes painful, sometimes joyful book with a dominant, caring hero and an incredibly strong heroine who has been through hell and is struggling to find herself again. Author Cherise Sinclair isn’t afraid to pack a wallop when it comes to human trafficking, something I appreciate given the seriousness of the subject. The beginning of TO COMMAND AND COLLAR was almost painful to read because of this – and that’s a good thing, even though the vivid imagery Ms. Sinclair’s words evoked meant I had to step away from the book a time or two.

It was beautiful to watch Kim come alive under Raoul’s care, though the love of her friends and the aid of a psychologist should not be discounted. Ms. Sinclair doesn’t abandon the reality of what Kim has survived. But it is the struggles of healing and the awakening of passion that Kim faces while living with Raoul that makes TO COMMAND AND COLLAR touching.

What I love about the MASTERS OF THE SHADOWLANDS books is that Ms. Sinclair makes each BDSM relationship as different as the characters she creates. Raoul and Kimberly dive into a full-time Master/slave relationship. The timeline is sped up because of the slave auction. But aside from the book’s villains, the main obstacle Raoul and Kimberly must overcome, if they want their burgeoning relationship to work, is whether Kimberly wants to be a full-time submissive. Raoul has been burned in the past by a relationship gone south, and he knows he can’t be anything less than what he is, nor would he ever ask Kimberly to give him more than she wants to give. Kimberly is concerned that her time as a slave has affected her when it comes to what she enjoys in BDSM. The way in which Kimberly figures out her desires adds realism to the book, helping to bring TO COMMAND AND COLLAR further to life.

TO COMMAND AND COLLAR is the sixth book in Ms. Sinclair’s fantastic MASTERS OF THE SHADOWLANDS series. Readers new to the series will be able to follow along with the information that Ms. Sinclair provides, and fans of the series will be delighted to see all their favorite characters again. As much as I enjoyed TO COMMAND AND COLLAR, I finished the book wanting another MASTERS OF THE SHADOWLANDS story. Ms. Sinclair has me drooling over sexy FBI agent Galen Kouros and man, oh man, does she have me on the edge of my seat, wanting to know if Dom/sadist Sam will make things work with the woman who has captured his attention.

TO COMMAND AND COLLAR doesn’t have the usual sparkle – as I call it – of Ms. Sinclair’s MASTERS OF THE SHADOWLANDS books, but given the storyline, that’s understandable. What is consistent is Ms. Sinclair’s phenomenal talent for delivering engaging, gorgeous stories with fiery hot love scenes. All in all, I can safely say that fans of the MASTERS OF THE SHADOWLANDS series won’t want to miss TO COMMAND AND COLLAR.

Review: Make Me, Sir by Cherise Sinclair

Make Me, Sir by Cherise Sinclair

Throughout the country, bratty, rebellious submissives are being kidnapped from BDSM clubs. The FBI is working to locate the source of the human trafficking ring, and part of their plan involves putting undercover agents in BDSM clubs to pose as decoys. Gabrielle Renard works for the FBI, but she’s a victim specialist, not an agent. Nevertheless, after one of her friends is taken by the slavers, she uses her experience as a submissive to be placed as bait the Shadowlands, an exclusive Florida BDSM club.

Dom Marcus Atherton works as the Shadowlands’ submissive trainer, but he doesn’t know why Z, the club’s owner, assigned a new trainee to him out of the blue and requested that he keep the mouthy sub on for a month. Having been married to a diva of a sub before, Marcus has no desire to deal with a sub that is constantly talking back and disobeying his orders. And yet, something about Gabi draws him to her. She’s sassy, to be sure, but there’s a sweetness and desire to fully submit that’s also there…when she isn’t acting out for inexplicable reasons.

Gabi doesn’t mind talking back to the lawyer/Dom Marcus. She’s had enough of stuffy suits to last her a lifetime. Then Gabi starts to see the man behind the suit, and it makes her yearn for something she can’t have: Marcus, as her Master. Gabi knows she can’t afford to break cover, not with a slaver targeting the Shadowlands. But she’s also never desired anyone the way she does Master Marcus…

The Masters of the Shadowlands are back in the fantastic, red-hot Make Me, Sir. Cherise Sinclair writes some of the sexiest, most engaging BDSM romances and Make Me, Sir is proof of that. As soon as I began reading Marcus and Gabi’s romance, I couldn’t stop until I finished (and had to resist starting again).

Gabi is a loyal friend and a genuinely kind, caring woman with a past that will tug at your heartstrings. She’s somewhat out of her depth when going undercover, but she’s strong, and does what needs to be done to attract the attention of the story’s villains. I admired her greatly and just plain adored her. As for Marcus…break out the fans, readers. Master Marcus, who was so incredibly appealing in the last Masters of the Shadowlands book, Lean on Me is only more so when he gets his chance to shine. Smart, sexy, dominant, and altogether wonderful, Marcus is sure to capture your heart. He’s a firm, but fair Dom, and like all the Shadowlands Masters, looks out for those in the club. I loved, loved, loved Marcus and Gabi together. Her sassiness and his patience are a good match and the way they fall in love just about turned me into a puddle of goo. At this point, Gabi and Marcus pretty much tie with Jessica and Master Z for my favorite Shadowlands couple.

Speaking of Jessica and Master Z, there’s a subplot involving them that could have had me glued to the book even had I not loved everything else about Make Me, Sir. I won’t spoil what happens, but I’m sure fans of the Masters of the Shadowlands will be every bit as enthralled as I.

Make Me, Sir is the fifth book of the Masters of the Shadowlands series, but it can be read as a standalone. The heroes and heroines of all the previous books (Club Shadowlands, Dark Citadel, Breaking Free, and Lean on Me) all play supporting roles, but new readers won’t be lost (though, fair warning, Make Me, Sir will likely make you want to run back and read the entire series). Ms. Sinclair also introduces some new Doms that made my mouth water. Between them (*cough*Special Agent Galen Kouros*cough*) and the questions I had at the end of the book involving the kidnappings, I am desperately hoping there are more Masters of the Shadowlands books to come.

The Shadowlands is all about safe, sane, and consensual BDSM practices (the emphasis on this in every book is something I love about the series), but the books themselves are all about gorgeously developed romance, scorchingly erotic love scenes, and snappy dialogue that will keep you reading for hours on end. Make Me, Sir is a phenomenal new addition to an already extraordinarily entertaining series. I loved Make Me, Sir and, as with all the Masters of the Shadowlands books, I will be reading it again and again and again. Make Me, Sir is a must-read!
